The media plays an increasing role in any young person’s life, but it is especially important to teens in their high school years. Research has demonstrated that teenagers â€Å"voice concerns and attitudes that echo themes common in media messages, and that they behave in ways that reflect media content† (Feldman 245). The concern is that the sexually suggestive media is the reason for the increase of sexual activity among high school teens. The downside is that there is an increase of movies depicting sexual activity at an early age as a common act. So why the concern of sex appeal in movies, if they are only movies? The hit film Juno went as far as showing teenage pregnancy as not only bearable but attractive, so as the â€Å"reviews of Juno appeared, [that] very same week the newspaper headlines announced [the first] rise in the teenage birth rate ... in a decade and a half† (Hulbert). There are other movies that even goes as far as idolizing sexual relations, such as the teen favorite Mean Girls, which takes the viewer into the life of the typical popular high school girl clique. The film not only has sexual related content in practically every scene, but the music used in the movie is sexually suggestive as well. Music becomes quite popular for teens as it can be used for various social activities and even in helping to control their moods. A nation of immigrants, the land of opportunity, the American dream; throughout its existence the United States has been a land to which individuals would travel in order to attempt to provide better lives for themselves and their families. While the lives of immigrants may not seem ideal through the eyes of the average American it is important to remember that the culture that has been established in America is much different than the culture that many immigrants have experienced in their previous countries. The neoclassical economic theory of immigration explains why it is that immigrants are so willing to pick up their lives in their old country and start from scratch in the United States. To begin with, the American population has become more educated and as a result the demand for lower skilled workers has been steadily increasing. Low skilled workers are in abundance throughout the immigration population; in 2010 28.9% of immigrants had less than a high school education and 25. 4% of immigrants had only a high school diploma. Therefore, immigrants were the perfect fit to occupy the open positions in low skilled work. Why would immigrants want to move from their homes to the United States only to take part in low skilled jobs? The Answer is money. The first words that come to mind when I think about this concert are fantastic, amazing, marvelous, and one-of-a-kind. Not only did you have the one and only Crowded House playing, but also Richard Thompson. This double billing definitely deserved the crowded house it played to at the Orpheum Theatre. The musical performance was absolutely mesmerizing. Some high points of the show were when Richard Thompson joined Crowded House for a song (dropping his pants to reveal blue underwear). There was also the energetic performance of Chocolate Cake (the first single off their new album) and Italian Plastic. There was also a surprise playing of an old Split Enz song, Six Months in a Leaky Boat. Much to my surprise, hanging around after the show, I found what hotel the band was staying at. The true definition of terrorism is ' the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims'', but this assassination attempt wasn't in pursuit for political aims. The shooter, John Hinckley, got his motivation from the movie, Taxi Driver, where an actor attempts an assassination on a political candidate. This movie and scene completely influenced this man to lead him to try to assassinate Reagan. This event wouldn't be a medical advancement, nor any type of advancement and not a world conflict. It simply happened during the cold war and the US continued its plans about the cold war not long after. About Magic Johnson's HIV announcing, I would replace this event into medical advancements instead of world conflicts. It would sort of fit into world conflicts because it shocked everyone but it wasn't something that could be turned into a third world war for. Before his announcement, everybody assumed that HIV could only get caught if 2 males have intercourse, but it would be impossible for this man to have HIV because he would be seeing women from left to right.
